CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME…

Why is it that things like bridal gowns and prom dresses must be purchased to keep, while tuxes and suits can simply be rented for the occasion?

“A dress holds special memories!”

Ok, fine, but won’t a tux or suit also hold the same special memories?  How many grooms out there are purposefully buying suits to keep? How many grooms out there feel societal pressure to buy and hold onto their wedding clothes?

As for prom dresses, teen girls and their parents dishing out hundreds of dollars to look gorgeous for a single night, and *maybe* they’ll wear it again (you know, if people/society don’t shame her for *gasp* wearing the same dress twice) but the dude can just rent his tux for the night??? Seriously, HOW MANY TEEN BOYS *BOUGHT* THEIR TUX/SUIT FOR PROM???

“You can’t put a price tag on memories!”

Bullshit. I admit that at the end of the day, in the struggle for gender equality this is minuscule, but it still is by no means “fair” that women/girls are pressured to spend a ton of money on a gown, whereas guys aren’t held to the same standard, or expected to dish out anywhere near the same amount (let alone hold onto it long after the occasion has passed).

There’s no such thing as the “perfect” job

You may have a job that you LOVE, that you enjoy going to and working at, but it will never be 100% perfect. Because there will be days, every so often, when you are knocked down a peg or two, when you receive criticism, when you are told you need to improve on something that you don’t feel you did wrong, or where you just feel momentarily overwhelmed by all that you have to do.

For some people, a job is a “calling”–you feel called to do the type of work that you do. But there will be moments when you find yourself questioning that call, questioning your skills, and even doubting yourself to the point of thinking “oh my gosh, all that education and experience I endured for so many months/years was all for NOTHING! I’m TERRIBLE at this, what was I thinking!?”

Stop.

Stop right there.

There will be bad days.  There will bad periods.  There will be moments of doubt.  And that will be true wherever you go, so don’t think about throwing the towel in just yet.

I had such a moment recently. To the point where last night I questioned my calling and wondered “maybe I’m doing something wrong with my life?” But this morning, after sleeping on it and letting that depressing cloud dissipate a little bit, I remembered why I do what I do, why I love what I do, why I want to do what I do…and gosh darn it, I AM GOOD at what I do, even if others don’t always see it.

That’s true for you too.

No job will ever be “perfect”, and what seems perfect over there, you’ll soon discover has the same issues that you’re facing right now. But if you love what you do, if you feel called to what you do, then believe in yourself and say “HELL YES” I am good and these people/this workplace are fortunate to have me.

special thanks to @zip-goes-a-million for her own uplifting words that I found when I woke up this morning :o) thank you very much, my friend!

It’s a little silly but I consider you kind of my “Starbucks guru”, if you recommend a drink I know it’s going to be good! Anyway, I tried the caramel brulee latte today and it was amazing! What’s your favorite holiday drink?

Awww, thanks anon! :oD I do love me some Starbucks, especially the latter months of the year

My favorite holiday drink is the Gingerbread Latte, although there was a terrible rumor going around that *gasp* Starbucks was discontinuing that drink for this holiday season???

I hope this isn’t true, or the baristas have a way of making it even if it’s not “officially” on the menu.

There a few others that I like–I really do like the new-ish Chestnut Praline Latte that came out a few years ago–yummy!

I’ll pretty much sample everything on the holiday menu–OH! And I do recommend one I tried last year; it’s not as fancy as the other beverages, but it was SOOOOO GOOD! And that’s the Holiday Spice Flat White
