Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match,
Find me a find, catch me a catch…

Ah, love is in the air, and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what a better theme for February than to Rock the Matchmaker AU!

Imagine if Sybil (ala “Emma”) decided to play matchmaker for her sisters and friends, and thought either Gwen or Edith would be PERFECT for Tom?  Or, perhaps Tom wanted to set his mate Matthew up with a girl who he thought would be perfect for him…only to realize that the girl is in truth perfect for him?

Or maybe everybody else chooses to play matchmaker and throw this perfect pair together at last? Whatever the genre, whatever the setting, and whatever the medium, celebrate Valentine’s Day all month long and play matchmaker yourself with our favorite Irish chauffeur and English suffragette as you ROCK THE MATCHMAKER AU!

So I started reading “Ready Player One” a few days ago, and…

I mean, I can understand the appeal, at least at first (it’s jam full of nerd pop culture references), but…that’s just it. It’s jam full of WHITE MALE nerd pop culture references.

Every sci-fi/fantasy author mentioned is male, every film director mentioned is male (Del Toro is thrown in as the token non-white guy), every 80′s cartoon mentioned was one geared specifically for boys–and yeah, yeah, I know that lots of girls watched “He-Man” and “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe”, and yes, I am well aware the protagonist is male too, but…seriously?  I mean there was a chapter where he defended his love for the movie “Lady Hawk” which is very much a fantasy romance, while he’s being teased for liking something “meant for girls”–you would think, therefore, he’d have a broader mind in terms of liking things that weren’t solely created for boys and/or by male authors/directors…but alas, no.  The only “positive” mention I’ve heard of female representation in his geeky outlook is the detail that he likes to watch YouTube videos of “pretty geeky girls playing the uckele”

There’s only so much white fanboy wanking I can take; if you’re ever looking for the perfect example of a “Gary Stu” (i.e. male author OBVIOUSLY inserting himself in the role of the so-called “awesome” protagonist) then here you go!

Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match,

Today when I woke up and looked in the mirror…I swore my stomach and waist looked *just* a bit smaller; at the very least they felt smaller! Granted, it was first thing in the morning and it’s been at least 10 hours since I had last eaten anything, so take it in strides :oP

Speaking of “taking it in strides”, I also swear that I can feel a difference in my thighs, i.e. they’re not touching *as much* as they used to :oP
