So, eons ago, I wrote a one-shot based on an anon prompt and another prompt about Sybil and Tom meeting on the Underground in London during her season, sharing an afternoon together as strangers, and then going back to their lives. The result was something that I initially intended to keep as a one-shot, but as often happens with me. Potential future scenes kept popping up in my head, all …
So I wrote a continuation, and then another, involving Tom getting hired as chauffeur at Downton Abbey. That was two years ago. At the time I thought the story would be a long one, but the truth is that there was only one scene missing: Tom and Sybil talking again. What happens after would be a reqrite of series 2, and I’ve already done a couple of those. So I decided to write that scene and leave it at that. What happens after … well, we know: she becomes a nurse, they fall in love, they go to Ireland to get married and live happily ever after, etc.
The scene of them reconnecting felt necessary to establish how—given what had already happened between—would really start. I hope this scene does this moment justice. And I hope anyone out there who was interested in this story feels the closure that I wanted to provide.
Gwen is getting married! But where do you sit special people from your past? Next to each other, of course! And those two people may discover that they have much more in common than they first realize…
It’s been four years—yikes! But I finally got around to updating Life Is What Happens. Caught a slight whiff of inspiration and decided to just go with it.
It’s a short update, but I wanted to ease back in. Those of you who need to re-read the whole thing to know what the hell is going on, take your time, but I will be updating soon-ish … at least it won’t be four years next time.
I wish there was Downton Abbey fanfiction that followed the series for the most part, only Sybil lives. I would add Matthew living, but his death gives more drama and allows for more growth in Mary. But imagine Sybil and Rose bonding as the youngest and modern women in the house. Would Sybil living take away from Edith’s story? And imagine if Edith confided about Marigold to Sybil. Not to mention we wouldn’t have to worry about some of the women trying to seduce/date Tom, like that gold-digging maid or the teacher who tended to annoy Robert.
I look back at the movies that I loved as a kid and there it friggin’ is: rich rebel girl x hot working class dude. Everywhere always. Case in fucking point: Jim and Jessica in the Man from Snowy River. Is there an iteration of this story I don’t like? There really just isn’t.
Preach it, girl! My favorite type of ship too–also explains why I loved Aladdin and Jasmine so much :oP
Following up on this post, here’s a long, long awaited update to It Never Hurts to Try, an AU in which Sybil uses a wheelchair.
It’s been YEARS, but I’m feeling some inspiration for this one and have several short chapters in mind. Not sure how soon the next one will come, but it certainly will not be this long ;p
